Exploring and Learning Through Nature and Inquiry

Week One – Online Craziness

We did it! The first full week of classes is officially over. I must say that it was honestly pretty stressful. It’s hard to navigate an environment that you are unfamiliar with, let alone try to figure it out all on your own. That being said, I can feel myself starting to get into a bit of a routine, whether it be attending all the synchronous zoom classes, or finding time to write blog posts, or even managing to go to bed at a decent time!

Setting up the WordPress portfolio had its challenges for me. The initial process of obtaining a URL was relatively easy, but trying to navigate around the site and figuring out how to write posts or alter the colour theme was a little more difficult. I think that so far I have the gist of things. I know that WordPress will pose some challenges for me, but I feel that I am relatively tech savvy, and should be able to get the hang of it!

In our first class, we went over the expectations for the course like assignments and tasks, as well as the general laws of privacy and safety. This included the ISTE standards, privacy and safety policies on the EDCI 336 webpage, and the BC FIPPA (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy) Cloud standards. I’m quite excited for this class as it’s so different than any of my other classes. I hope that by the end of this course, I will be able to smoothly navigate my WordPress blog, as well as learn a bunch of new strategies and tools that I can use for the rest of my career!
