So, yet again, the truck is still under repairs, and I am unable to get out on to the trail which I am pretty bummed about. Although this time, we’re getting a new engine!
After some discussion and a few sketchy situations on the trail, we decided that we wanted to get a new (used, but new to us) engine. The engine in the truck before was just not giving the truck enough power to get up hills. The tires on the truck (37″, I know, wow!) are too big for the engine, which would cause the engine to get tired, so we decided it was time to upgrade.
Previously, the engine was just a four-cylinder. This is pretty small in comparison to the truck. For reference, picture the truck we have:
And then picture that the same engine in that truck (4-cylinder) is the same engine in a Honda Civic. It kind of makes me laugh, that we have this big beefy, souped up truck and it runs on the same little engine as your average car.
Anyways, we decided it was time to get an engine that would give the truck a lot more power, and be better fit for the size of tires that we have. The engine we got is a V6 engine. These are commonly found in most mid-size trucks or sporty cars. Basically, we are going to have a ton more power! In this video below, our truck struggled to get up a relatively steep hill. It would get halfway up, and then the engine start bogging out because there just wasn’t enough power to push it up.
With the new V6 engine, this should definitely never happen again!
The only downside to this is that the engine swap is going to take a bit of time. It’s not something that will just get done in a day. There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle to make sure that everything works. Another factor is that my partner and his dad are doing the swap, and although his dad is a mechanic, the big issue will be finding time to work on it. Most likely, any work that gets done on it will only occur on weekends, as they both have jobs to go to during the week! But fingers crossed that it should be done before December at least.
The upside to the downside of not getting to be on the trail, is that I can document the process of the engine swap for my free inquiry! As well, we have lots of off-roading friends that I’m sure would be willing to take us out to the trail. Not only that, but I also have some drone photography that I am excited to start editing for hopefully one of my last free inquiry posts. Wish us luck!
